The Director Calls it Quits After Receiving Over 100k Votes For Another Film in The Hellboy Series

Hellboy is officially dead and the word is coming from about as reliable of a source as you can ask for. The film’s creator Guillermo Del Toro, or The Notorious GDT as no one ever calls him, has announced on Twitter that plans for a trilogy have fallen through. Here’s to hoping Hellboy finds peace in the afterlife and not eternal torment as his name would suggest.

The possibility of a third Hellboy movie was teased about a month ago when Del Toro started a poll to see if there was any interest in the movie. Not surprisingly, over 100,000 fans flocked to the polls to let their voices be heard, but alas sometimes the voice of the people isn’t enough.

After meeting with comic book writer Mike Mignola and star Ron Perlman, Del Toro went to everyone’s favorite media source, Twitter, to share the bad news with us.

Well, that’s it. Goodnight sweet Prince of the Underworld. You brought us so much joy in the past, but you were never meant for this world…

Although Hellboy won’t be making his cinematic return, this isn’t the last we’ll see of him. His life may have been short on the screen, but like a phoenix, he rises from those celluloid ashes and back onto the page when the new Hellboy graphic novel hits the stands in spring. Hellboy: Into the Silent Sea promises to be the red devil’s most epic adventure yet and hopefully will act to sate the thousands of fans who yearned for a new adventure on the silver screen.
