Jacob’s Ladder

Jacob's Ladder Review CFIR

This week, we take a psychological journey into the surreal as we discuss the 1990 mystery, Jacob’s Ladder. In this episode, the guys talk about the first time they remember seeing this trippy drama. Does it still hold up as well as it did when they were mere teenagers? Later, with so many different “realities” presented in this film, we try and discover which of Jacob’s lives was truly real. Also, we can’t talk about this film without also mentioning other sources of entertainment that inspired, and were inspired by, Jacob’s Ladder. We talk about Italian horror and Silent Hill to name a few. Finally, we discuss the many stars in this film, especially one who would go on to be one of the biggest child stars of the 90s, Macaulay Culkin.

  • i think you guys are trying to be waaaaaay to literal. this movie is meant to have several readings. to say that it’s just a dream is simplistic, and trying to find something concrete in something that was meant to be open for multiple ways of understandings. it is about PTSD, it is about military experiments and flashbacks from both war and drugs, it is about purgatory and it is about letting go of life. it is all of those things, and you can make a solid case for each. the point— at least to me is that it is all of those things, and point is what the chiropractor said, it’s all in a matter of your perspective if these things are angels or demons, if they are real life or purgatory, etc…
