The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Laverne Cox, best known for her role as Sophia Burset in Netflix’s Orange is the New Black, has been cast to play cult icon Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the Fox remake of The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

The remake will be presented on Fox as a two-hour TV special due to air in 2016.

Cox became the first transgendered actress to be nominated for an Emmy for her role in Orange is the New Black. She has also had recent TV roles in Faking It and The Mindy Project. She is also set to play a transgendered lawyer in the TV movie Doubt due out later this year.

The role of Frank-N-Furter was made famous by cult film legend Tim Curry who was in such films as Legend, Clue and Congo. He is probably most recognized, or rather barely distinguishable, as Pennywise is Steven King’s IT.

The 1975 original Rocky Horror is considered one of the quintessential and best known “midnight movies,” a trend that started in the 50’s and later were known for introducing audiences to offbeat B-movies in the 70’s.

What do think of a Rocky Horror remake? Does it have a life on TV?
