There can be only one!

Well, technically five if you count Highlander: The Source, but the original Highlander, one that started it all, turns 30 years old today!

Starring Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery, Highlander takes audiences on a historical journey through time, telling the tale of a group of immortals locked in eternal battle. Scotsman, Connor MacLeod, is one of the last of these immortals who must battle with brutish warrior The Kurgan, who also happens to sound like vegan dish. It was written by Gregory Widen as an undergraduate assignment at UCLA and eventually sold for $200,000.

Although unpopular in the US at the time of its release, it eventually gained and cult following and managed to spawn a multitude of sequels along with a popular TV series.

The film is also popular for its soundtrack which featured songs from rock legend, Queen. Many of the songs can be heard on their 1986 album A Kind of Magic.

A 30th anniversary Blu-Ray edition of the film is scheduled to be released on June 13th, so don’t forget to save up.
